Coaching can help you to succeed in your sober journey and beyond, in becoming more self-accepting, confident and ready to achieve your goals.
What does that mean?
As your coach, I will create a safe and supportive space, working to help you:
- Increase your self-compassion and confidence
- Navigate your sobriety
- Gain new perspectives
- Learn new coping strategies
- Identify and achieve your goals
With coaching, you invest the time in yourself and I invest the time in you as well. Straightaway you’ve got double the people working to help you achieve!
A bit about me…
I have been sober since November 2019. It took two decades of abusing alcohol to get to the point I was at on 13th November 2019. To cut a long story short I’ll jump right to 2018: I had finally sought help for mental health issues, deep-rooted shame and past trauma, and had been doing a whole bunch of work on self-development, setting healthy boundaries, and building non-toxic relationships. I had shown up for myself and asked for help and realised my experiences and pain were valid... all the right things. But the alcohol abuse and destructive behaviour (+anxiety) didn't magically stop. It didn't go away. I realised that alcohol was the problem that bookended everything else, and I’d had enough. Through this journey, I have pursued a new career direction in coaching and counselling, in addition to finding fulfilment in my role as a Marketing Manager at a University; I have bought a house where I now live with partner, two cats and a Spanish rescue dog; I have started to make peace with my body and even returned to ballet; I have truly learnt who I am – I had never really had a period of time without alcohol as an adult, so I was meeting my sober self for the first time.
Your journey might look similar or it might be completely different – it’s your journey, unique to you.
In addition to my Bee Sober coaching qualification and experience of mentoring, management and action learning set facilitation in the workplace, I am currently training to be a counsellor. I am at the end of my Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills and have accepted a place to start my Level 4 Diploma Therapeutic Counselling in September, which will lead to me practising as a qualified therapist too. I am interested in using my training to support people with a range of issues including anxiety, low self-esteem, shame, and behaviours stemming from addiction, sexual trauma or issues around identity.
I have a background in creative writing, literature and theatre (BSc, MA and professional experience), and am a self-confessed film and TV nerd (far too much binge-watching), so it may come as no surprise that I like to incorporate creative strategies and pop culture into my work. However, please don’t worry. The coaching I offer is person-centred and is driven by you – your goals and how I can best support you to achieve them, and there are lots of ways I can do that.
In the future I hope to set up some supported book therapy group sessions around themed topics such as shame, sexual assault, identity.
Why Bee Sober?
I am the Bee Sober Manchester ambassador, run the Bee Sober book cub, and am a newly qualified Bee Sober coach… so I’m a bit biased in saying that I love Bee Sober and everything we do, but it’s true. This community has been hugely important in my sober journey so I feel very lucky to be using my skills to support others in their successes.
I have enhanced DBS clearance, and Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance.
