I’m Alex Herod, ambassador for Bee Sober Manchester.
I am a marketing manager at a University, a trainee therapist, a writer, and an occasional theatremaker.
I am a book nerd and host our Bee Sober Book Club online – I’m biased, but it’s amazing ❤
I live with my partner and two cats, I am an expert level binge-watcher, and I am never happier than when by the sea. I post pictures (of my cats mainly) on Instagram as @alexherod_
It took two decades of alcohol abuse to get to the point I was at on 13th November 2019. To cut a long story short I’ll jump right to 2018: I had finally sought help for mental health issues and past trauma, and had been doing a whole bunch of work on self-development, setting healthy boundaries, building non-toxic relationships (OMG). I'd shown up for myself and asked for help and realised my experiences and pain were valid... all the right things. But the alcohol abuse and destructive behaviour (+anxiety) didn't magically stop. It didn't go away. I realised that was the problem that bookended everything else, and I’d had enough.
So, I’m here now, doing this, with over 1 year of sobriety and the benefits are really immeasurable. I am excited to be part of the Bee Sober Community and to share this journey with so many incredible people.
