It also looks at the short- and long-term risks and the harm alcohol causes in comparison to other drugs. The module ends with a short multiple-choice assessment and is consolidated in the live sessions.

Module 2 – Coaching Introduction
The second module focuses on what coaching compared to other therapies can offer a client. It will help you to understand where coaching fits in with other therapies, how coaching can help the client to become and remain sober and how to deal with cross-overs.
The first live session in this module focuses on dealing with guilt and shame. How guilt and shame can hold us back and hinder our sobriety and how you can help someone to develop the tools to work through these complex emotions. The second live session will give you the opportunity to use what you have learnt in a practical session with a case study and will also answer any questions you may have so far.
Module 3 – Coaching Knowledge
The third module develops your skills as a coach specifically looking at how trauma and other factors can lead to addiction and alcohol dependency. We take a look at how barriers and limiting beliefs are formed and can lead to self-sabotage and how these can impact progress in coaching. We take a deep dive into building rapport and focus on different coaching models where you will be able to develop your own style in a way that suits you and your clients so you can overcome these barriers. We will look at some specific coaching activities for dealing with some of these common themes.
The first live session in this module focuses on the stress response. We take a look at the biology behind stress and how you can help your client to deal with it without alcohol. The second live session will give you the opportunity to use what you have learnt in a practical session with a case study and will also answer any questions you may have so far.
Module 4 – Coaching Skills
The fourth module develops your skills as a coach in terms of your communication skills, listening levels and body language. It is in this module that you will be able to develop your own style in a way that suits you and your clients. Upon completion of this module, you will feel ready to start coaching actual clients.
The first live session in this module focuses on living a balanced life. We explore living a balanced life in this taught session and you will learn how to help your clients achieve this as part of their sober toolbox, without the need for the crutch of alcohol. The second live session will give you the opportunity to use what you have learnt in a practical session with a case study and will also answer any questions you may have so far.
Module 5 – Conducting coaching and ethics
The fifth module focuses on how to actually conduct a coaching meeting including initial meetings, record keeping, coaching contracts and how to deal with a coach/client relationship that isn’t working. We will also help you navigate that all important topic of ‘what to charge’. The online part of this module ends with a look at how to coach ethically and why ethics are a fundamental component of any coach/client relationship.
In sobriety, as you will know, feelings are amplified and dealing with them without the crutch of alcohol can be tricky to navigate. In the first live session we will therefore provide you with the tools to help your clients achieve this. The second live session will give you the opportunity to use what you have learnt in a practical session with a case study and will also answer any questions you may have so far.
Module 6 – Recovery and Sobriety for all
The final module is all about sobriety and the ways in which it can be achieved. Not everyone chooses a 12-step programme or needs rehabilitation and every journey looks a little different. This is because each person’s reason for wanting to be sober is a little different too. We explore the different routes to sobriety and how the coach can be an excellent facilitator for all of these.
In the first live session we will be looking at how you can help your clients with overwhelm. The second live session will give you the opportunity to use what you have learnt in a practical session with a case study and will also answer any questions you may have so far.
Assessment.
Each module is assessed with a 20-question multiple-choice exam that you will need to complete before moving onto the next module. We will also use case-studies throughout the course to help you to develop your coaching skills toolbox. The final assessment will be an additional 90-minute live session where you will demonstrate your coaching skills before becoming a fully-fledged and qualified sober coach.
We can’t wait to see you on the course!
